NNNY – Day 40: Lost items = desperate measures

Mr Mox Nix just loves Laughing at my checklists. Sure, sometimes I go overboard, like putting every teeny-tiny detail of his 40th birthday onto a spread sheet, complete with Gantt Chart for scheduling. (It is of course vitally important that the tea lights are placed on alternate steps precisely 15 minutes before guests are set to arrive.)

Mock me as he may, they do serve their purpose – particularly when you are trying to re-pack a suitcase after a, um, how should I say it…full-day of lubricated socialising.

Prone to forgetting chargers and cables in hotel rooms, I’ve created standard packing lists for myself for different types of trips: two nights or five night; casual or business; city or farm; hot weather or cold weather; carry-on or checked baggage.

In light of that, I laughed booty off (wishful thinking) when, on his return, in a bit of a panic, he told me he forgot his only pair of dress shoes and needed something for a early morning meeting; something that didn’t have a Nike logo or rhymes with wrong. Bwahhh haaa haaa.

Of course, seeing as it is Sunday late afternoon, nothing is open, except … K-mart. (If you recall, the mass production of their items is one of the reasons I’m doing the NNNY, plus, the smell of the formaldehyde is surpasses only by rotten brussel sprouts.)

Anyway, seeming to forgotten that it was him who needed shoes, I still got the puppy eyes while pleading, “I’m so tired. Could you please go for me?”

So, taking a tip from all those CSI shows, I dab some Vick’s Vapo-Rub under my nose, head into the store and practically run to the walls of shoes. Right hand grabbing shoes, left hand grabbing socks, elbow knocking a Twix bar into my cart, I’m at the checkout at Olympic speed.

Head home and …

a. Throw the socks in the washing machine (to wash off the aforementioned formaldehyde)

b. Make Mr Mox Nix try on both pairs and

c. Shampoo the hair. Twice.
